The 21 escapes of Lt. Alastair Cram by David M Guss

The 21 Escapes of Lt. Alastair Cram by David M. Guss follows Alastair Cram’s World War Two story, which is absolutely crazy. And plenty of David Stirling in this book for those of you wondering what he was up to while he was imprisoned.

Colditz Last Stop by Jack Pringle

Colditz Last Stop: Four Countries, Eleven Prisons, Six Escapes by Jack Pringle is, you guessed it, Jack Pringle’s memoir. With again, a foreword by David Stirling. This one is a quick read, for those of you who don’t like long books (looking at you, Maartje).

SAS Duty Before Glory by Tony Rushmer

SAS: Duty Before Glory by Tony Rushmer tells the true story of Reg Seekings which came out in september 2024. This biography is lovely and accessible (George has read MANY, so best believe them) and the Seekings family really like it too, so that speaks in its favour!

S.A.S Man in the Making by Peter Davis

S.A.S Men in the Making by Peter Davis is a first-hand account of the younger SAS officer. Written shortly after the war’s end, Davis’s account uses diaries recorded during the war. It is possibly the last, untold, first-hand account of a time of chaos, of horror and the camaraderie of the men of the SAS.

Ep 108 – Another Mother’s Son – Resistance on the Occupied Channel Islands

In this episode of Rosie the Reviewer, we discuss Another Mother’s Son (2017), the true story of Louisa Gould, a Jersey shopkeeper who sheltered an escaped Russian POW on the German-occupied Channel Islands. We talk about the film’s strengths and where it shortchanges its own story, and we cover the history of the occupation, from Britain’s decision not to defend the islands to what happened to Louisa after her arrest. It’s also Mother’s Day this weekend, so we’re joined by a very special guest: Rhonda, Sam’s mom.

Ep 60 – X Company Season 1 – Canada’s Secret Spy Camp X Meets Gritty WWII Drama

In this episode of Rosie the Reviewer, we dive into the explosive first season of X Company — the 2015 Canadian WWII drama about five secret agents trained at Camp X, Canadas’ spy training camp. From high-stakes sabotage in occupied France to moral grey zones and surprise betrayals, we explore what makes this little-known show so gripping. We talk about the character arcs we love, historical accuracy, and the surprisingly brutal tone. Expect fake dating, trauma flashbacks, Nazi hypocrisy, and a that one guy from Schitt’s Creek.
