Episode: SAS Rogue Heroes Special with Military Advisor Ben Simmons

Description

This week, we have a special episode for you and another video pod! Ben Simmons, military advisor on SAS Rogue Heroes seasons 1 and 2, sits down with us and answers all our (and your) questions without spoiling (much).

Also joining us is our series regular, friend of the show, SAS correspondent George, because it just wouldn’t be an SAS show without them.

Season 2 kicks off on the BBC, January 1st 2025.

SAS Rogue Heroes Season 2 trailer

The story of the real SAS (and other things we recommend you watch)

The BBC also released this featurette about the creation of the SAS, voiced by none other than Theo Barklem-Biggs who portrays Reg Seekings in the show.

You can also finds parts of the documentary mentioned in our episode, on YouTube:

Movie Recs by Ben Simmons

Instead of our usual book recs (we fully expect more book recs from George in future episodes about SASHR), Ben recommends some movies and shows to watch. Some of which we have unsurprisingly already seen (and covered on the pod).

The Great Escape

Wait, didn’t we cover this? Why yes, we did! So here’s a link to that. Definitely our favourite escape movie. We’ve seen two, so don’t know what that tells you.

A Bridge Too Far

We haven’t covered this yet but we know this is a lot of people’s favourite. It’s star-studded, and about the Battle for Arnhem, so really, a recipe for success. Fun fact: Maartje’s geography teacher was an extra in this.

SAS Rogue Heroes S1

So, Ben didn’t actually say this, but it would be a shame if you didn’t also watch SAS Rogue Heroes seaon 1, don’t you think? And check out our previous episodes (1 and 2) in which we discuss all the episodes with George and try to give you some background and understanding of the actual campaigns.
