About Rosie the Reviewer

The origin of the Rosie the Reviewer podcast is a funny story. The idea first arose when—after discussing a Band of Brothers scene for the umpteenth time—we  (Sam and Maartje) joked that we talk about WW2 media so often that we should start a podcast. For many weeks, nothing came of it, but it bounced around in our heads enough for Sam to bring it up again, and this time, a couple of days later, we recorded our first episodes. The Rosie the Reviewer podcast was born (the title is a most fitting pun, we think!).

What makes us different, you ask? First of all, we’re women. WW2 media is predominantly geared towards men, and related podcasts are often hosted by men, so we’ll do our bit. Our backgrounds (being Canadian and Dutch) allow us to offer you unique perspectives that may not be out there much. We aim to shed light on popular films, shows and books as well as the more unknown stories, particularly those of women in WW2.

Meet your team

Sam

A history buff from Canada who has never seen a rabbit hole she didn’t want to go down. She goes on crazy hikes and runs marathons for fun. Makes everyone else look bad. Don’t ask her about Spleengate. She reads a million books.

Maartje

History buff from the Netherlands. She likes going on WW2 tours, talks to actors like they’re her friends and has been reading the same book for 84 years. She paints, writes, and edits podcasts on the side. Ha! That almost rhymes!

George

Our regular guest-host and official SAS Rogue Heroes Correspondent who joins us for any and all episodes related to the SAS. Voice of reason, keeper of an immense library, making us sound smart. Find out more on their website.
